Water polo to face four ranked teams

Fresh off their championship victory at the UCSB Invitational,
the No. 1 UCLA women’s water polo team (10-3, 3-2 MPSF) will
face four opponents this week. No. 7 Loyola Marymount (7-6) and the
No. 4 Long Beach State 49ers (11-4, 3-1 MPSF) will visit the Sunset
Canyon Recreation Center on today and Friday respectively.

The Bruins defeated LMU 12-5 in the UCSB Invitational and hold
an all-time record of 5-0 against the Lions.

The 49ers are off to their best start in school history and look
to keep rolling against the Bruins. UCLA holds an 8-0 advantage in
the series between the two schools.

Sophomore All-American Roberta Stewart leads the 49ers with 29
goals.

UCLA junior center forward Natalie Golda was named the
UCLA/Met-Rx student-athlete of the week for March 3-9, and
currently leads the Bruins with 23 goals.

The Bruins will be on the road Saturday to face UC San Diego and
Princeton. Last year, the Bruins defeated the Princeton Tigers
16-6.

Watley named player of the week

Natasha Watley, a shortstop on the No. 1 UCLA softball team, won
both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and USA Softball
player of the week awards.

Watley went 11-for-14 in the Hallowell Chevrolet Classic over
the weekend in Fresno, helping the Bruins win four of five
games.

Diving team plunges into Zone E

While the Bruin swimmers, who have qualified for the NCAA
tournament in Auburn, Ala., anxiously await national competition,
the UCLA divers have one more obstacle to overcome before reaching
the championships.

Senior Bruin diver Regan Gosnell and freshmen Amanda Blong, Sara
Clark and Paige Thompson will compete March 13-15 at the NCAA Zone
E Championships at the Oklahoma City College Pool in Oklahoma City,
Okla.

The Zone E Championships are used to qualify divers for the NCAA
Championships, which will be held March 20-22.

UCLA swimming has four automatic qualifiers heading to Auburn
(Sara Platzer, Malin Svahnstrom, Kristin Lewis and Kim Vandenberg)
as well as seven other swimmers and three relay teams which have
provisionally qualified for the national meet.

Rowing team opens second season

The women’s rowing team will open its second NCAA season
when it hosts Long Beach State Saturday in Marina Del Ray.

Races start at 8:30 a.m. and because the meet is Parent/Alumni
Day, fans have the opportunity to meet Bruin alumni rowers and USA
Olympians, Kevin and Mike Still.
