No. 3 water polo heads to UC Santa Barbara
When the women’s water polo poll was released this week,
UCLA (6-3, 3-2 MPSF) was bumped down the ranking ladder to an
all-too unfamiliar territory: No. 3, trailing No. 2 USC (9-1, 5-0
MPSF) and No. 1 Stanford (7-0, 2-0 MPSF).
UCLA seeks retribution this weekend when it heads out into a
pool of 16 teams in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament, which includes
every top-10 team in the nation.
In this talented and battle-tested field, the Bruins will begin
their quest for domination in Group B when they square off against
Redlands University at 9 a.m. Saturday, and then at 1:40 p.m.
against the winner of the No. 6 Loyola Marymount-No. 9 UC San Diego
match. If the Bruins win both they will have their eyes set on
Sunday and possibly a run at the championship.
Injuries plague women’s tennis
The women’s tennis team will be in Eugene today to take on
the University of Oregon. The No. 8 Bruins (8-5) are coming off a
5-2 loss to USC, and hope to even their Pac-10 record at 1-1 with a
victory over the No. 36 Ducks.
Injuries continue to bother the Bruins, and they will be missing
several players from their regular singles lineup. No. 7 Sara
Walker was limited to doubles action against USC, and is
questionable for today’s match.
Feriel Esseghir and Lauren Fisher are also going to be limited
to doubles. Susi Wild had to retire during her second set of
singles against USC due to a back injury, but she is expected to
play both singles and doubles today.
The Ducks recently gave No. 4 Cal a scare, taking three points
from the Bears before falling 4-3.
