Bruins hoping to conquer Idaho

Ten men’s and women’s track and field teams are in
Boise, Idaho today and Saturday to compete at the Mountain Pacific
Sports Federation Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Ranked highest among the women’s teams are No. 6 UCLA,
which will face stiff competition in No. 7 Stanford, No. 18 Arizona
and No. 23 Washington State.

Two Bruins are coming off first-place finishes at the L.A.
Invitational last Saturday: senior Tiffany Burgess, who won the
800-meter run (in 2:10.5) and sophomore Alejandra Barrientos, who
won the mile (4:56.63). Burgess has already qualified automatically
for the NCAA finals in the 800m with her season-low time of
2:05.28.

The nationally unranked UCLA men’s team is the defending
team champion. Sophomore Nick Thornton was the highest-finishing
collegian in the men’s 800m at the L.A. Invitational
(1:51.98) and has the lowest season time among his opponents in
Idaho, 1:50.28.

Events begin today at 11 a.m. and Saturday morning at 9
a.m.
