Aloha, Bruins
There will be three games in paradise for the UCLA baseball team
(2-2) this weekend. The Bruins travel to Hawaii to take on the
Warriors, a team picked to finish fourth in the Western Athletic
Conference.
Hawaii has yet to play a game this season, and returns only 11
players from a team that went 16-40, 5-25 in conference play. They
were 15-22 in Rainbow Stadium last year.
After a disappointing late inning meltdown against UC Riverside,
victories over a mediocre non-conference opponent would help
rebuild UCLA’s confidence.
One player not lacking in that area, however, is Billy Susdorf.
The sophomore outfielder was named Pac-10 player of the week after
going 8-15 (.533) with two home runs, a double, seven RBI and six
runs scored. He also has a perfect 1.000 slugging percentage thus
far.
Water polo begins season at Stanford
With two NCAA women’s water polo championships in the last
three years under head coach Adam Krikorian’s belt, the No. 2
Bruins are looking forward to the Stanford Invitational Tournament,
as a precursor to the start of the season.
This Saturday and Sunday, the Bruins will face off against both
USC and Hawaii in the tournament, both early opponents of UCLA in
their regular season, and UC Santa Cruz.
Their fourth opponent will be determined by the outcome of their
first three games, but is likely to be a final showdown with No. 1
Stanford.
Volleyball hopes to break streak
UCLA will get the opportunity to snap a three-game losing streak
tonight when it hosts UC Santa Barbara in Pauley Pavilion.
The Gauchos ( 3-6, 1-3) are led by junior middle blocker Justin
Adams, who had 13 kills and hit .375 in UCSB’s 3-1 lost to
Pacific Jan. 31.
After losing to Cal State Northridge Wednesday, the No. 11
Bruins (4-6, 1-5 MPSF) are desperate for a league victory.
