Don’t punish all Carson students
I was appalled to learn of the recent sexual assault here at
UCLA. But I was horrified to learn where the individuals who
committed this crime were from. Being a UCLA student and a Carson
High alumnus, I have had mixed thoughts and feelings about this
tragic incident.
When I found out these individuals were from Carson High, I was
wondering about the implications. Should the reputation and
privileges of a school be destroyed just because of the actions of
a few? I feel that a few students’ acts should not affect the rest
because other students have worked hard and behaved well to get
where they are. And why should those students suffer? Gregg

Jordan’s idea is ridiculous
Like Antonia Jordan (“Carson High shares blame for
assault,” Jan. 9), I was shocked and saddened by the assault
on our campus. And in no way do I want to diminish the seriousness
of the incident by writing this letter.
However, it is utterly ridiculous and unjust to punish an entire
class for the horrific crime of three classmates. Denying admission
to Carson High School’s whole senior class is completely unfair.
Yes, the field trip supervision was totally inadequate. Yes, the
high school should hold some responsibility. But to reject all of
the school’s seniors because of the actions of three? Jordan
reacts as if all seniors at Carson High are criminals. This is
simply not true. John O’Neill First-year,

Liberal Bias?
If the media is as liberal as conservatives contest, why is
Bush’s confrontation at all costs with Iraq always termed a
“war” and never an “invasion” or
“attack” by the United States? Hm, guess it’s the
conservatives’ political correctness in action.

A shameful basketball performance
