One twin has surgery; both in stable condition at
UCLA

Both Maria Teresa and Maria de Jesus Quiej Alvarez remain in
serious condition with stable vital signs in the Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit at UCLA’s Mattel Children’s
Hospital.

Maria Teresa Quiej Alvarez was recovering from a third surgery
to remove blood accumulated on her brain. Doctors cut back on her
ventilator support and sedation, said Med Center press aide Roxanne
Moster.

Maria Teresa underwent a follow-up operation on Aug. 22 to
remove blood that collected on her brain after the nearly daylong
Aug. 6 procedure to separate her from her sister, Maria de
Jesus.

It was the third such follow-up operation, but no more are
planned.

Maria de Jesus continued to be alert and active.
