According to an Aug. 16 report in the Los Angeles Times, Bruin
forward Andre Patterson is expected to be ruled academically
ineligible for the fall quarter and must sit out at least the first
three basketball games next season.

Patterson, a sophomore, has been attending summer sessions to
become eligible for the 2002-2003 season.

UCLA sports information director Marc Dellins would not comment
on Patterson’s academic status, but said that UCLA coaches do
not expect Patterson to transfer to another university.

As a freshman, Patterson averaged 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds in
nine minutes a game, and was second on the team with 18 blocked
shots.
