Award comes as a surprise to Condella
Sophomore women’s rower Irene Condella was named to the
All-Pac-10 team last Sunday at the conference championships in
Rancho Cordova, Calif.
“I was totally shocked when I found out,” Condella
said. “I am honored to included with rowers from schools with
great rowing traditions.”
Condella competed at the Varsity level this year, where she
earned the fastest ergonometer score of the boat and helped to
guide UCLA to a sixth place standing in the Pac-10.
“Irene is really dedicated on and off the water,”
head coach Amy Fuller said in a statement. “She’s not a
prototypical rower, and power per pound right now on the team,
Irene is definitely the top athlete. She’s going to be a
crucial team player for UCLA all year.”
Condella says she didn’t work harder than anyone else on
the team but is still extremely pleased.
“This award will help me push myself in the off
season,” Condella said “I really want to get to that
next level in my rowing.”
