David Mamet (“Glengary Glen Ross,”
“Heist” and “Wag the Dog”) came through
again with 2000’s “State and Main,” a story that
describes the havoc a Hollywood production can wreak on a small
town. Starring William H. Macy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sarah
Jessica Parker and Alec Baldwin, the film charmingly depicts the
town and delivers a hilariously realistic look at the antics of a
big budget production.
As with other Mamet movies, there are plenty of memorable lines
in the typical rhythmic Mamet style. In one example, the
film’s director (Macy) says, “Who designed these
costumes? It looks like Edith Head puked and that puke designed
these costumes.”
