Dorms to vote on program

On-campus residents will vote on the Newspaper Readership
Program at their nearest dining hall today from 5-9 p.m. to
determine if the dorms will receive USA Today, The Wall Street
Journal and the Daily News for the 2002-03 school year.

Though the Resident Activity Fee that students pay in their
housing bill would increase by $9 each year, the program
distributes newspapers at a lower cost than standard subscriptions
or the newsstand price.

Other schools that have endorsed the program have seen declining
readership in their student paper as a result.

At least 55 percent of voters must approve the program for it to
go into effect.

To prevent multiple votes by the same person, students must vote
at the booth closest to their dining hall, where their names will
be posted, said On-Campus Housing Council Chair Adam Harmetz.

OCHC will count the votes immediately after the polling
ends.
