The women’s water polo team experienced an ebb and flow of
play this weekend, downing Cal State Northridge 17-0 but only
beating Long Beach State 6-4.
Against an inexperienced Northridge team, freshman Kristyn
Pulver scored a hat-trick, and 10 of her teammates scored at least
one goal.
“Kristyn has been playing great,” coach Adam
Krikorian said. “She’s really been working her way up
there.”
The Bruins got a slow start against Long Beach and fell behind
3-1 in the first quarter. Midway into the second quarter, the
Bruins answered with a 5-0 rally and shut Long Beach out until the
last seconds of the game, when Long Beach scored its fourth
goal.
“We didn’t come out quickly and we did a poor job of
being mentally prepared for that game,” said Krikorian.
“We expect more out of our team.”
Goalkeeper Jaime Hipp had six saves and Natalie Golda, Maureen
Flanagan, Amber Stachowski and Mari Joyce scored for the
Bruins.
“This weekend showed us what we can improve,”
Krikorian said. “We have many issues with communication. As
soon as we get in the water, it’s silent, and we have to get
better at that.”
The Bruins improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain
Pacific Sports Federation.
