The UCLA men’s lacrosse team will face its first Division
I opponent, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, on Saturday at the North
Athletic Field. This will be the first significant test of the
season for the Bruins as they work towards a championship
season.

“This is a huge game,” fourth-year midfielder and
co-captain Mike Montgomery said. “We are here to avenge last
season’s loss to Cal Poly, after they beat us by
one.”

Cal Poly comes into this weekend’s game ranked 23rd in the
nation and finished 8-5 last season.

“This is going to take a team effort from our boys to be
competitive against this team,” Bruin head coach Mike Allan
said. “Its not going to be won by one, single person.

“It is a good chance to make an impact. We have a good mix
of experience and new guys.”

Coming off a 1-0 victory against USC, the team is suffering from
many injuries. The younger players will need to step up against the
Mustangs.

“This is the first game of the season for them, and we are
hoping to capitalize on that,” Allan said. “We want to
take advantage of their first time mistakes, something that we got
over against USC.”

The team is planning on going full force against the Mustangs
utilizing many of their new players.

“This is our second game on the road to the
championships,” fourth-year midfielder Tim Sovay said.
