performance by Ellen Lauren that journeys through the life and
thoughts of writer Virginia Woolf. It plays now through Sunday,

“L.A. on My Mind: Recent Acquisitions from MOCA’s
Collection” is an exhibit at the Pacific Design Center
featuring works created by emerging Angelino artists. This Sunday,

In “Birthday Girl,” opening Friday, Nicole Kidman
plays a Russian mail-order bride who marries a sexually repressed
American man. The two can’t communicate due to a language
barrier. But who needs talking when you’ve got wild,
passionate sex with Nicole Kidman?
Also opening Friday is the movie “Slackers,” a story
about a group of students cheating their way through college. It
almost works until a nerd discovers their dishonest ways and
blackmails the slackers in order to get a girl. Cheaters never
prosper, but apparently the nerds who blackmail them do.
MUSIC
Veteran rocker Jonathan Richaman, influenced by the Velvet
Underground, will be performing at the El Rey theater on Friday. To

Catrin Finch will be playing the harp at Royce Hall on Sunday,
Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. She is the first “Royal Harpist” to
the Prince of Wales since the last was appointed in 1871, and has
won many other awards. Also featured will be the baritone opera
