LITERATURE

Converse with Ray Bradbury in a panel discussion this Saturday
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at UCLA’s Northwest Campus Auditorium.
Octavia Butler, Lem Dobbs, Harlan Ellison, John Harrison and Ray
Kurzweil will also join in, with Arthur Cover moderating the
discussion. Admission is free.

ART

The UCLA Department of Design’s “Media Arts
Undergraduate Exhibition 2002″ features digital, print,
video, installation and 3D works of undergraduate students. Gallery
hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the New Wight
Gallery in Dickson Art Center. Admission is free.

MUSIC

The alternative rock band Concrete Blonde led by Johnette
Napolitano is coming to town. See the band rock the El Rey Theatre
this Friday.

Mary Chapin Carpenter will be performing with novelist Anne
Lamott, at Royce Hall this Saturday. The night will feature songs
and spoken word storytelling. Carpenter will be accompanied by John
Jennings on guitar. The show begins Saturday at 8 p.m. in Royce
Hall.

Also Saturday the “X.O. Straight No Chaser Tour”
will be at the El Rey Theatre. The show includes the hip hop acts
Defari, Swollen Members and Tha Liks.

THEATER

The UCLA Musical Theater Workshop and director John Hall bring
“Triumph of Love” to Schoenberg Hall this weekend,
Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. The musical is
based on a 17th century French play. Tickets can be purchased at
the Central Ticket Office at (310) 825-2101.

Comedy Project 2002 is opening at 8 p.m. tonight at The Skirball
Cultural Center with “Say The Word.” Comedy writers and
authors include Winnie Holzman (“My So-Called Life”),
George Meyer (“The Simpsons”) and Kevin Nealon
(“Saturday Night Live”). Tickets are $12 for general
admission and $6 for students. For more information call (310)

FILM

The American Cinematheque is presenting “Escape Artist: A
Tribute to John Carpenter” will be showing at the Egyptian
Theatre in Hollywood.

The prices are $8.00 for general admission, $6.00 for
Cinematheque members, and $7.00 for seniors and students with a
valid ID card. The screenings will all be held at the Lloyd E.
Rigler Theatre at 6712 Hollywood Blvd., at the Egyptian in
Hollywood.
