“I’m pretty happy with Ackerman. It’s convenient,
and I haven’t had any problems with the store. Food-wise
it’s pretty expensive, but you’re paying for the
convenience. But I’d rather go to Ralphs and buy my groceries
there because they have a larger selection.” Charles
Boyd Alumnus Class of 2001 “As far as providing what
students want, Ackerman offers enough basic little things at prices
comparable to outside stores. As for clothing, there isn’t
much of an option (outside of Ackerman). ASUCLA has a monopoly on
UCLA apparel and they know it, so they charge prices that reflect
that. This is why the place is so crowded on sale days, because
students can actually afford something then.” Francis
Eclevia Second-year Undeclared “It’s really
convenient, but price-wise they should be more competitive. They
seem to be taking advantage of students ““ some don’t
have the time to go off-campus to look for better prices. I think
BearWear is outrageously expensive. They should consider
student’s financial burdens and give more discounts at these
stores because we already pay a lot in student fees.”

“Overall, I think ASUCLA does a good job to meet the needs of
students. There’s definitely going to be overcrowding during
lunch, and the restaurants are a little pricey. It’s
expensive to eat lunch on campus, but it’s much easier to pay
high prices for lunch than to spend time in the morning preparing
lunch.” Hien Nguyen Law “I think the
student store does a good job, and I think the prices are
reasonable. I’ve compared the prices to Ralphs and other
grocery stores, and they are fair. I also like the variety (in
Ackerman). I come down from North Campus just to get more
variety.” Jennifer Pak Third-year History
and art history “In terms of the food, I think it should
definitely be cheaper. I think it’s really overpriced. I
don’t eat here anymore, I bring food from home. (Ackerman) is
convenient, like the student store, but I usually just wait for
sales anyway.” Speaks out compiled by Edward Chiao, Daily
