ELI GILL Linebacker Brandon Chillar hits
Cal QB Eric Holtfreter in the same game at which
the Bruins For Relief campaign was initiated.

Latest UCLA injury update

The injuries continue to pile up for the Bruins following last
weekend’s loss to Washington State.

Though he will start, quarterback Cory Paus is still suffering
from a thumb injury. Backup Scott McEwan has not yet recovered from
a sprained ankle sustained during the Stanford game two weeks
ago.

The Bruins are most thin at wide receiver. Tab Perry will not
play after taking a huge hit against the Cougars. He remains in a
hospital in Pullman and should return to Westwood later this week.
Cody Joyce is still out with problems stemming from a concussion
suffered earlier this year. Brian Poli-Dixon will return to the
lineup against Oregon after a three-week absence, but did not take
hits in practice this week.

On the offensive line, Shane Lehman is questionable with an
ankle injury. Troy Danoff is also questionable with a hurt ankle
and separated shoulder.

At safety, Marques Anderson was shaken up but should play, while
Jason Stephens is doubtful for Saturday’s game.

Why don’t you shut the Duck up

Bruin receivers will have to contend with considerable quacking
on Saturday as the Duck cornerbacks are known for their mouths.

Last year in a loss at Eugene, UCLA wideout Freddie Mitchell,
never one to contain his thoughts, commented on the Ducks and their
tongues.

Split-end Brian Poli-Dixon describes Oregon cornerback Rashad
Bauman as similar to UCLA corner Ricky Manning: a small guy who
loves to talk it up on the field.

The lone Oregonian

There is one Bruin, junior offensive tackle Bryce Bohlander, who
is particularly excited to see the Ducks come to town. Bohlander
went to high school in Keizer, Ore., and was considered one of the
top recruits in the state coming out of high school.

“(UCLA) is obviously a better school, both athletically
and academically,” Bohlander said of his decision to head
south.

In his second season as a full-time-starter, he has no regrets,
and looks forward to playing against up to 20 former high school
opponents.

Bruins for Relief to be continued

In response to the Sept. 11 tragedy, several UCLA student
athletes will be contributing to the families of the victims at a
special event called “Bruins For Relief.”

The event, which is being sponsored by the Bruin Athletic
Council, began at UCLA’s game against Cal and will continue
this week at the Oregon game. UCLA student athletes, coaches and
staff will be collecting donations, and every dollar received will
go to the families and victims.
