N’Dour performance at Royce is cancelled

And the cancellations continue.
Senegalese world-music star Youssou N’Dour has cancelled
his upcoming tour, which was to make a stop at UCLA’s Royce
Hall on Thursday, Oct. 18.
The singer-songwriter was to embark on a one month U.S. tour,
however, he has cancelled due to the “current political
climate.” This is the newest of a string of cancellations and
postponements of UCLA events indirectly linked to the terrorist
attacks of Sept. 11, affecting Royce Hall as well as Westwood Plaza
activities.
The tour was to highlight N’Dour’s first U.S.
release in six years, “Joko (The Link),” released on
Nonesuch late last year.
N’Dour was born in Dakar, Senegal in October of 1959 and
has helped shaped a form of music known as mbalax.
Ticketholders for the Royce Hall performance should contact the
Central Ticket Office for refunds and information.
N’Dour has recently performed on “The Late Show with
David Letterman.” He also holds the title of UNICEF Goodwill
Ambassador and UN Messenger of Peace.
