How many fingers am I holding up?
Senior linebacker Robert Thomas and sophomore wide receiver Tab
Perry returned to practice Wednesday after missing two days with
concussions. Wide receiver Cody Joyce is also recovering from
post-concussion syndrome.
Thomas, who leads the team with 39 tackles this season, is not
sure if he aggravated the same concussion from the Ohio State game
or suffered a new one.
“I guess I gotta stop hitting these guys so hard,”
Thomas said.
Ken Kocher (sprained knee) and Matt Stanley (ankle sprain) are
still out. Sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wikert took a medical
retirement due to bulging disks in his back.
Buh-bye
Things got rough and rowdy on Tuesday with more contact drills
and a few tiffs on the field.
“For a bye week it was really intense. People were
banging,” Perry said.
“We’re just trying to keep each other motivated and
make sure we are all going hard,” redshirt freshman wide
receiver Craig Bragg said of maintaining momentum through lots of
contact over the bye week.
Things got wildest in the scout scrimmage.
“(Scouts) don’t face each other that much so they
get a little feisty,” Toledo said after people had words on
the field. “It’s an opportunity to look at some young
kids and see what they do in a live situation.”
Switching spots
Sophomore Garret Lepisto switched back to wide receiver this
week after playing defensive back. He played both positions in high
school and came into UCLA as a wide receiver, but was moved to
defensive back because the secondary was thin.
With Joyce and Perry out with concussions, Lepisto rejoined the
wide receivers and garnered attention for an excellent performance
on Tuesday.
