Explosions in the Afghan capital city of Kabul just before 3:00
p.m. PST today were not part of a United States retaliatory strike,
according to White House Spokesman Ari Fleisher.

At around 2:45 p.m. ““ hours after this morning’s
terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon
““ CNN monitored several bombings in Kabul.

Fleisher said those blasts were part of a continuing civil war
in Afghanistan.

Fleisher made the statement aboard Air Force One, which was
carrying President Bush. The president’s plane, flanked by
three close-flying U.S. Air Force fighter jets has since landed
safely at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

Since Sunday, Afghanistan has suffered explosive hits, and some
speculate the attacks were assassination attempts on Ahmad Shah
Masood, who leads the Afghan Opposition guerrilla.
