New goalkeeper coach hired

Peter Van de Ven will take over the goalkeeper coaching duties
at UCLA, men’s soccer head coach Todd Saldaña announced
last week.

Van de Ven will be filling a vacancy left when David Vanole
departed to become the goalkeeper coach for the Washington Freedom,
which is of the Women’s United Soccer Association.

“Peter is one of the top up-and-coming goalkeeper coaches
in the region,” Saldaña said in a press release.
“He has excellent playing experience, as well as collegiate
and youth coaching experience.”

A former standout while at the University of Washington, Van de
Ven’s coaching credentials include time spent at Chapman
University (1999-2000), Mater Dei High School (1999-2001) and a
pair of club level teams.

Van de Ven, a Santa Ana native, also spent parts of the 2000
season with Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy.
