CRIME WATCH   8 Vehicles stolen $21,669
Grand theft $1,884 Petty theft

Petty theft Wallets, purses, cell phones, cash
and parking permits are among items reported stolen in the last
period, coming to a total loss of $1,884. Police note eight
incidents of cell phone theft. Each cell phone is valued at $100 to
$200. Two suspects removed an ice cream scoop from Kerckhoff
Coffeehouse at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday. Police recovered the scoop
later that night from an apartment on the 400 block of Gayley
Avenue.

Grand theft Desktop and laptop computers,
cameras, camcorders, a car stereo, compact discs and unauthorized
withdrawals from bank accounts were among grand thefts reported in
the last period. The total value of grand thefts is $21,699.
Although there were no signs of forced entry, someone took a Compaq
laptop computer valued at $2,000 from the 600 block of Landfair
Avenue between April 23 and Friday. Someone stole a camera and a
camcorder valued together at $3,650 from a white Toyota Camry
parked on level one of Lot 4 between 6:40 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. on
Saturday. A video/data projector valued at $5,000 turned up missing
from Royce 148 between 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Wednesday. On Friday,
someone stole a 1998 white Honda Civic from Lot 30 between 6:15
p.m. and 12:01 a.m. Police logged reports of eight stolen or lost
vehicles in the last period.

Miscellaneous There were 94 incidents of
miscellaneous crime in the last period, not including 18 reports of
alarms going off and 125 traffic stops. Rape was reported by
someone at Santa Monica Hospital, Monday at 7:48 p.m. Someone
removed soap dispensers and towel racks from the walls of the
men’s rest room in the Fowler Museum of Cultural History and
plugged up the toilets between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Police arrested
someone for disabled placard misuse on Saturday on Young Drive
South. On Sunday at 1:12 a.m., a man struck a bouncer at Westwood
Brewing Company and fled to the construction site at Lot 32. Police
took a woman into custody at 1:26 p.m. Tuesday for assault with a
deadly weapon at the Ackerman loading area.
