Mount pops the question
During halftime of the UCLA men’s basketball game against
Oregon State last Thursday, sophomore outside hitter Cameron Mount
proposed to his girlfriend, Britney West.
Mount brought West down to the court, where each member of the
volleyball team handed her a rose. They then took off their outer
shirts, revealing T-shirts that each had a letter painted on
them.
The letters spelled out the words, “Britney I love
you.”
Then a whistle blew, and the team turned around to reveal the
words,
“Will you marry me?”
West said yes.
Mount had been planning the proposal since November, when he
learned the volleyball team would be introduced at halftime of the
basketball game. He and West will be married early in the
summer.
McKienzie named Player of the Week
Dave McKienzie, a senior opposite hitter for top-ranked Long
Beach State, was named the AVCA Player of the Week after helping
the 49ers to a pair of wins over the top 15 teams this past week,
including No. 11 CSU Northridge and No. 6 UCLA.
Through nine games McKienzie averaged 7.11 kills, 0.33 blocks,
1.56 digs and 0.33 aces. The 49ers are undefeated.
Against UCLA last Friday McKienzie hit 40 kills, a 2001 NCAA
men’s season high, and two blocks, nine digs and a .406
attack percentage.
Injury update
Starting senior outside hitter Mark Williams is still out for
another three to four weeks with a high ankle sprain.
True freshman outside hitter Jonathon Acosta is still recovering
from a pulled stomach but is getting better. He went to practice
Monday and was allowed to hit and block, though he cannot do any
jump serves, diving or hard spiking.
