Police received reports of an attempted rape of a female UCLA
student Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred near the Sunset
Canyon Recreation Center at the intersection of De Neve and
Bellagio Drives.

The victim reported that a 5- foot-6 to 5-foot-9 African
American man wearing dark clothes pulled her toward bushes when she
screamed and ran away.

Additional police patrol has been ordered and the LAPD plans to
assist in the investigation.

In a crime alert issued late Tuesday, UCPD warned students to be
aware of their surroundings after dark and, if possible, to go out
with others. Police are encouraging students to use the CSO escort
program by calling (310) 794-WALK.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call
UCPD at (310) 825-1491.
