Graves’ expressive voice, elegant stage presence, and
impressive theatrical abilities have made her one of today’s
most popular stars. Performing a varied repertoire in many of the
world’s great opera houses, and appearing alongside
celebrated symphony orchestras, Graves is especially well-known for
her turns as the title roles in “Carmen” and
“Samson et Dalila.”

RxBandits play at Westwood Plaza
The RxBandits play at Westwood Plaza, on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at
noon.
The band, whose members only use their first names, includes
Matt on lead vocals and guitar, Rich on trombone and vocals,
Noah on saxophone and vocals, James on bass guitar, and Chris on
drums.
RxBandits was formed over two years ago by friends Matt and
Franz (who was recently replaced by James). The band released its
debut album, a blend of third wave ska revival and alternative
pop/rock entitled “Halfway Between Here & There” in
1999.
The RxBandits lean toward the more pop-oriented end of the
third-wave ska spectrum, and have been compared to former tourmates
Less Than Jake and Save Ferris.

Rafael Moneo Speaks at Perloff
Architect Rafael Moneo speaks at Perloff Hall, Monday, Nov. 27
from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The lecture is part of a fall series presented by UCLA’s
Department of Architecture and Urban Design. Rafael Moneo, whose
most recent project, “Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral”
is nearing completion, will speak on the Museum of Roman Art in
Spain.

CCDC hosts “˜Lotus Steps’ on Nov.
28
The Chinese Cultural Dance Club hosts “Lotus Steps”
on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Northwest Campus Auditorium from 7:30
to 8:30 p.m. The event is free to the public.
An educational club, the CCDC performs several styles of Chinese
dance and works to teach audiences the history behind each
individual style. In addition, the presentation includes a
techniques demonstration to further inform the public about the
artistic and cultural meanings behind the dance movements.
CCDC is a newly formed campus club dedicated to exposing Chinese
culture through dance. Weekly classes with experienced instructor
Josephine Chen are offered. A UCLA graduate, Chen has studied
Chinese Cultural Dance under Wang Shin-Yue, former artistic
director of Beijing University of Arts and Culture, and Lu Yu-Lin,
former principal performer of Taiwan Arts and Culture Exchange

Peter Nabokov Speaks at Bunche Hall
Peter Nabokov speaks at Bunche Hall, Room 10383 on Wednesday,
Nov. 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
UCLA’s Center for the Study of Religion presents the talk
as part of the Fall 2000 Colloquia. Dr. Nabokov, of the Department
of World Arts and Culture, lectures on “Sanctuaries of the
Spirit: American Indian Roundhouses of the Reservation Era.”
