Bruins don’t qualify for Olympics (ONLINE EXTRA!)

No UCLA swimmers had yet qualified for the U.S. Olympic team as
weekend competition ended at the Olympic trials in Indianapolis,
Ind. For the Bruins, senior Beth Goodwin placed 12th in the
semifinals of the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:01:44 while
junior Nicole Beck placed 14th with 1:02:50. Stanford alum Dara
Torres swam a world-record time of 57:58 in the preliminaries and
followed that with a 58:07 in the semifinals to advance to the
final round.

Goodwin also placed 76th in the 200m fly with a time of
2:21:31.

In the 100m backstroke, Beck placed 20th in the preliminaries
with a time of 1:04:80.

Junior Lyndee Hovsepian finished 62nd in the 100m breaststroke
in 1:14:43.

In addition, 2000 grad Keiko Price swam a 56:54 in the 100m
freestyle to place 14th and qualify for the semifinals.

Next week, Price will finish her qualifying races in the 100m
and then will be joined by Goodwin in the 50m free. The competition
concludes on Wednesday.
