Training resort aims to teach citizens firearm safety

In his recent column, Andrew Wohlwend shoots down Front Sight,
Nev., a master planned community and world class firearms training
resort under construction near Las Vegas (“Front Sight
misfires in effort to affirm rights of gun-users,”

Viewpoint, May 23). Wohlwend takes numerous shots at the Front
Sight concept as he attempts to position Front Sight as part of the
problem of gun violence in this country. The columnist is quite
eloquent in his diatribe against Front Sight ““ eloquent to
the point of giving the reader a false sense of his understanding
of the Front Sight project.

The main problem with this fourth-year college student venting
his mind is that he has never been to Front Sight. He has never
interviewed me. He has never experienced the safe and responsible
training provided at Front Sight ““ a level of training that
far exceeds the levels found in law enforcement and the military.
Wohlwend’s misguided opinion is a classic example of
ignorance stated with eloquence.

The world is full of influential and articulate people who do
not know that they do not know. Politicians, celebrities, talk show
hosts, columnists and even educators spread their ignorance of
gun-related issues with grace and style. As opinion leaders, they
seduce the equally uninformed, general population and lead people
down a much more dangerous path, where ignorance merges with
misinformation to create dogmatic propaganda. One would hope that
such ignorance and its dangerous manifestations would be lacking at
an institution the caliber of UCLA. Unfortunately, Wohlwend’s
column is evidence to the contrary.

I welcome Wohlwend, faculty members and students of UCLA to
attend a free, one-day submachine gun course at Front Sight to
experience why Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is part of
the solution to gun violence in this country. Find your invitation
and application under “Free Submachine Gun Courses” at
www.frontsight.com.

Why submachine guns? Because (as you will learn) they are fun.
Because it is legal in Nevada and numerous other states to own and
shoot submachine guns. Because you will experience firsthand why a
submachine gun, or any other gun for that matter, is just a tool. A
tool in the hands of a law abiding, private citizen trained in the
safe and responsible use of firearms is nothing to fear or
fault.

Regardless of which side of the gun issue you currently stand
on, everyone agrees that law enforcement officers should have the
very best training available in the world today. Front Sight
provides that training. And everyone agrees that if private
citizens are going to own guns, they should be trained in the safe
and responsible use of their firearms.

Front Sight provides that training for private citizens to a
level that exceeds the law enforcement community and military. So
any way you look at it, if you take the time to experience Front
Sight’s training, you will agree that Front Sight is part of
the solution to gun violence in this country.

Had Wohlwend attended a course at Front Sight before spreading
his misinformed opinion, I’m sure his viewpoint would have
paralleled the positive viewpoints recently presented on such
notable television segments as UPN Channel 13’s 10 p.m. News
in Los Angeles, MSNBC’s “Special Edition,”
ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and the local NBC
news stations in San Diego and Los Angeles. But that is why Andrew
attends a university ““ for enlightenment. Without education.
we simply do not know what we do not know.

I hope to see you at Front Sight for a free and fun supplement
to your education.
