USAC CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS

If there’s one word that describes Fannie Huang, a
third-year applied mathematics student and the lone candidate for
Community Service Commissioner, it’s
“enthusiastic.” With her dynamic outlook and broad
experience as both a CSC staffer and project participant, Huang is
sure to be a passionate, committed and motivated leader for the the
thousands of students who participate in USAC-sponsored service
programs.

A former member of UCLA’s crew team, Huang has a “go
get ’em team” attitude that’s perfectly suited
for leading such a large commission. She is organized and
knowledgeable, and as someone who has participated in Project BRITE
(Bruins Reforming Incarceration Through Education) and other CSC
programs, she has a passion for volunteering that will surely
motivate her staff as well as program participants.

Huang emphasizes the empowerment of project directors through
adequate training and a joint tutorial program aimed at sharing
ideas and solving problems cooperatively among the
commission’s 23 different projects.

If there’s any downside to Huang’s candidacy, it is
her inexperience with regard to the political role of being a
voting member of the legislative council. This again demonstrates
that most commissioner offices are unnecessarily politicized by
being elected positions. Still, if Huang brings half as much
passion to USAC as she does to her commission, the council ““
and the student body as a whole ““ will only benefit.

With a leader as knowledgeable, experienced and, above all,
enthusiastic as Fannie Huang, the Community Service Commission will
be in good hands in the upcoming year.
