USAC CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENTS

Jared Seltzer’s got class ““ though you
wouldn’t know it from his candidate statement and you
definitely wouldn’t know it from the Campus Events
Commission’s advertising.

It’s also something he would probably never admit to
either.

But, lucky for Campus Events and the undergraduate population as
a whole, he’s running again for a position that not only
requires experience in managing an enormous amount of entertainment
programming, but also demands that he play a part in the
decision-making of the council.

Seltzer understands this task, even if he doesn’t agree
with the political roles that are unnecessarily attached to a
commissioner position. He votes according to “his
conscience” ““ a tactic than some council members could
learn from.

And he has proved this year that the part of his job that
involves leading the Campus Events Commission ““ which
produces everything from the Ackerman Film Series to speakers such
as Ben Stiller ““ continues to be his top priority. His plans
for next year remain focused and practical. With the support of his
staff, Seltzer plans on bringing bigger and better entertainment
back to campus with ideas such as a music festival comparable to
UCSD’s Sun God festival.

Campus Events programs benefit more students on campus than
anyone realizes, making it imperative that the most experienced
person continue the tradition of entertainment ““ and
irreverence. Seltzer’s experience will also benefit USAC as a
whole as he and two other previous officers, Marselle Washington
and Steve Davey, bring a working knowledge of their organizations
back to their commissions.

Returning to the political game for a second year,
Seltzer’s learned the difference between running Campus
Events and being a Washington D.C. hopeful. Next year, USAC will
have at least one officer who doesn’t have a political
agenda, but is simply interested in providing undergraduates with
quality programming and entertainment.
