My name is Cheryl Marie Lott and I am a fourth-year student of
political science, African American studies and Chicana/o studies.
I am running for general representative with Praxis, which means
“reflection and action.”
I am currently a staff member in the general
representatives’ office, and a member of the Hate Crimes
Policy Committee. I participated in organizing events such as
Democracy in Action, which was a debate on Propositions 21 and 22.
This event attracted more than 100 students. I also worked on Speak
Your Mind!, which was a series of discussions held on Bruin Walk
and surrounding the aforementioned initiatives.
Praxis has always been, and continues to be, dedicated to issues
such as campus safety, equal access, student empowerment and
community awareness. In continuing with this tradition, I will
continue my work with students and the administration on the hate
crimes policy, as well as co-program events that would raise
cultural awareness around our campus.
In addition, it is vital to aid the Women’s Resource
Center and other women’s organizations on campus, to promote
not only the existing women’s self defense workshops, but
also to implement other relevant programming.
Praxis has always believed that direct student organizing is the
only way we can truly create a UCLA campus that reflects our needs.
My unmatched experience will enable me to continue this tradition
if I am elected for the office of general representative.
