General Representative

By Daily Bruin Staff

May 1, 2000 9:00 p.m.

My name is Bill Elliott, and I am running for general
representative with the Viable Alternative slate. I am a
second-year student, and I feel I am more than qualified to perform
this position. This year I served as chief of staff for General
Representative Adam Rosenthal. I am also a member of the Spirit
Squad, the incoming external vice president for Saxon Suites, a
member of Bruin Democrats and a member of Unicamp. This past year,
I have served as the UCLA publicity director for a national
presidential campaign and I am a former leadership intern.

With my office, I would pursue a number of goals that are in
line with the desire of our slate to improve student services. I
would finish expanding the Bruin Card into Westwood businesses, and
I would work to create some type of incentive program to benefit
Westwood businesses that treat students well (meaning they have
open places for students to study and they accept the Bruin
Card).

I would also advocate the creation of an efficient polling
system so that I could conduct student polls on the following
student services: I would poll ASUCLA employees to make certain
they are being paid fairly and being given fair work hours. Also, I
would poll student opinion on the service of the Arthur Ashe
Student Health and Wellness Center. Finally, I would poll
students’ attitudes on the service and efficiency of the UCLA
Store. I would also sponsor one well-publicized public debate on
pertinent issues each quarter.

We are Viable Alternative. Put the student back in USAC.
