External Vice President

By Daily Bruin Staff

May 1, 2000 9:00 p.m.

When I first decided to come to UCLA, many of my friends and
family members asked me how I would feel attending such a large
university. But in my time here I’ve seen the large student
body not as a problem, but as an advantage. With such a large
number of students, our united voice is louder.

In my first year, I became actively involved in our African
Student Union to work with other students who were trying to
improve our university and our environment as a whole. I served as
the community empowerment coordinator for ASU during my second year
and also began to work in the External Vice President’s
office in student government. As this year’s national affairs
coordinator in the EVP’s office, I am working with other
students to unite student voices on the state and national
levels.

As your next external vice president, I will use my proven
experience and dedication to make the office a useful and
accessible space for students ““ working to improve the
greater society and access to education. I will put on national and
statewide student lobby days, town hall meetings with the UC
Regents, and I will strengthen our existing relationship with the
UC Students Association and the United States Student
Association.

As students, our voices must be heard, because we are more than
just numbers.

As external vice president, I will help make our voices stronger
by uniting our needs with those of students across the nation.
