TOAST THE TOSTITOS

A couple of days after the emotional win over the Trojans,
attention for most fans and players is now directed to the December
5 game at Miami and the national championship implications it will
bring.

"We’ve sewn up three of our goals this year: win the Pac-10,
getting the bid to the Rose Bowl and beating USC," UCLA quarterback
Cade McNown said after Saturday’s 37-17 victory over USC. "There is
one more and we have two weeks to prepare for Miami. These dreams
have a way materialize into reality. You have to embrace it."

Considering UCLA is undefeated at 10-0 and the Bruins have gone
through one of the toughest schedules in the nation, a non-invite
to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will be unacceptable to the Bruins.

"If we beat Miami we should definitely be in the Fiesta Bowl,"
Toledo said on Saturday.

FRESHMEN SHOULD KEEP QUIET

Before the UCLA-USC game, Trojan freshman quarterback Carson
Palmer showed a lack of respect by calling out the Bruin
defense.

Six sacks, two interceptions and one fumble later, the UCLA
defense feels vindicated.

Two out of the 16 seniors who finished their careers at UCLA
without a loss to USC were not kind to Palmer during and after the
game.

"That young quarterback (Carson Palmer) was talking smack about
he was going to knock us out of the Fiesta Bowl and he didn’t do
anything," said UCLA linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, who sacked
Palmer four times and on Monday was named Pac-10 defensive player
of the week.

Added Bruin safety Larry Atkins, who picked off one of the two
interceptions by Palmer: "He’s never been in this environment and
we wanted to rattle him. He doesn’t know what it’s about."

Practice this week

The Bruin players will practice on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
before getting the next four days off to spend with their families
during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Next week, though, practice will go back to normal as UCLA
prepares to play at Miami.
