Speaks Out
What role do you think computers and technology should play in
our daily lives? Do you think people rely on them too much?
"I think they should be used as tools, but I don’t think
computers should become your life. They’re good tools for word
processing, or getting information from the Internet, or to write
up a resume. But I don’t think you need to spend 50 hours a week in
chat rooms wasting your time."
Elizabeth Martin
Graduate
Anthropology
"I think that computers should help us check e-mail and keep in
touch with other people better. It’s an important tool for everyday
life that I think people should use all the time."
Marcial Anaya
Fourth-year,
Medical Engineering
"People rely on computers way too much, especially with that
computer crash that’s going to happen in the year 2000, when all
the computers won’t be able to change their dates to 2000. If you
can’t use a computer around here, you’re kind of out of luck."
Anna Dingle
Third-year,
Biology
"I think technology and computers should definitely improve the
quality of life, whether it be in medicine, or learning through
information services. I don’t think we rely on it too much, I think
the problem is we’re abusing it  with pornography on the
Internet, or nuclear warheads where that radioactivity could be
used for medicine and imaging."
Eric Agdeppa
Graduate Student,
Biomedical Physics
"I feel that computers are an important part of our daily lives,
but it shouldn’t get to the point where it becomes a hassle-where
people rely on it too much. It’s a good communication tool."
Jason Yip
Second-year,
Biology
"I think that computers should be used as a resource for anyone
that wants it, that’s what it’s out there for. People are beginning
to rely on it too much, but that’s their own individual choice
some work, some rely on a machine. A good balance is
required."

Fifth-year,
