Facilities

No Endorsement

The choice, or rather non-choice, for facilities commissioner
was the easiest decision for The Bruin to make: None of the three
candidates had a full understanding of the office nor did they
demonstrate the ability to take on leadership roles.

Platforms notwithstanding, the candidates could not even
convince us of the necessity of the office and why they should be
in it.

Aside from the fact that none of the candidates – Trinh Huynh,
Ryan Ozimek and Telly Tse – turned their candidate applications in
on time, none seemed to understand what was possible – or
impossible – for them to accomplish.

Their platforms were hollow, unrealistic and full of rhetoric.
Ozimek and Tse lacked sincerity and, while Huynh appeared to be the
most concerned about the office, The Bruin is not confident she
understands the realities of her position – that the commissioner
is not authorized to create new multimillion dollar parking
structures, replace emergency phones with lighted poles across
campus, hire CSO’s or extend library hours to 24 hours a day.
