Speaks Out
EDUCATION: Do you think it’s good that UCLA requires students to
take classes outside of their major, or should students be allowed
to take only classes that interest them?
Jason Rosenberg
I think GEs are good because they give you a chance to get a
basis in things that you wouldn’t normally be exposed to. I’ve
taken some classes that I’ve really enjoyed.
Erin Golaboski
I feel that you should be able to take courses of your choice,
because if you’re made to take a course you’re not interested in,
you might not do as well and it’ll hurt your GPA.
Olin Ghosh
I think it’s good that this school requires general education.
Although it can be reformed, the importance is that it causes
people to seek being well-rounded. There is a large spectrum of
classes that they can choose from.
Serela Mansur
I think that people should have a choice of what classes they
should take and it shouldn’t matter what their major is.
Vo Vuong
We should graduate as well-rounded students. I don’t want to
come in here and just learn all math and be a great mathematician
and not know some of the liberal arts stuff.
Zenia Park
GEs add breadth. I think that within your major you get shut
into your own little category and you don’t really get a chance to
branch out. Right now, I’m taking a literature course and I
wouldn’t have been able to take one within my major.
