That’s the way it should be

Two recent opinion pieces in The Bruin, one an editorial and the
other a Viewpoint piece by Andres Chang ("Regents don’t care about
problems," Nov. 24) have bemoaned the fact that the Board of
Regents does not represent students.

This displays a fundamental misconception. Of course the board
does not primarily represent students, nor faculty, staff, nor
graduate student employees.

They’re not supposed to.

The UC Board of Regents represents the people of the state of
California. Remember those folks who own the university and who,
through their taxes, pay much more of its operating expenses than
our registration fees?

This, I say, is more or less as it should be.
