Better, cheaper, faster Thumbs up to NASA for recently launching
economical, yet effective space exploration projects. The
successful Mars Pathfinder mission carried a relatively low price
tag . Small price to pay Thumbs up to the Instructional Technology
Initiative, which will improve computer labs and standardize web
sites and virtual office hours at a $2.50 (humanities/social
science courses) or $3.50 charge (life/physical science) per unit.
Keep it to yourself Thumbs down to Playgirl for publishing
unauthorized nude photos of Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Irresponsible actions give journalists a bad name. Thumbs down to
the trespassing photographer – invasion of privacy is a serious
offense. You got what you paid for Thumbs down to the class action
lawsuits being filed against Mike Tyson to reimburse outraged fans.
The firm says fans were cheated because the fight ended in
disqualification. Talk about frivolous lawsuits! ‘S’ stands for
sex! Thumbs up to the new content rating system, which will give
viewers a better idea of what they will be watching. However,
parents should still be responsible for what their children watch.
No excuses Thumbs up to Larry Kramer, who made a multi-million
dollar offer to endow a gay studies professorship at Yale. But
thumbs down to the university, which rejected his proposals,
claiming the field is too narrow, and that they cannot currently
hire new faculty … but it’s being paid for by Kramer! Thumbs
Up/Thumbs Down represents a majority opinion of the Daily Bruin
Editorial Board.
