Shoppers may no longer have the option of either paper or plastic, if on Wednesday the Los Angeles City Council votes in favor of an ordinance banning both types of bags.

Jan. 18, 2012 – Four college leaders, including UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, gathered at a public forum on Jan. 11 to discuss the challenges that their institutions are currently facing. At the heart of several issues that were addressed was the impact of repeated budget cuts and tuition hikes on the future of higher education. Larry Mantle, who hosts KPCC’s news talk show, “AirTalk,” moderated the event. USC president Max Nikias, California Community Colleges Chancellor Jack Scott, and the president of Pitzer College, Laura Skandera Trombley, also participated. The forum was recorded and played on AirTalk the next day.

June 20, 2011 – The UCLA Fund raises money through donations from alumni, parents, students and friends of UCLA. Beside online and snail mail donations, a large chunk of money is raised through direct phone calls made by the UCLA Student Call Center. The Call Center also raises money for the university’s different professional schools. It is closing out its year next week. It surpassed its fundraising goal and is looking to finish with close to $2.4 million. [2:22]
