June 11, 2012 – Much has changed for the students graduating in the Class of 2012 throughout their years at UCLA. In fact, around half of the students who will be graduating have changed their majors at least twice since they entered UCLA.

Bill Gordon, the Director of College Academic Mentoring and Peer Learning with the College of Letters and Sciences, discusses how counselors like himself aid students who are considering a change in major.

Fourth-year Anthropology student Joseph Racca and fourth-year Sociology student Priscilla Ramos, both graduating next weekend, talk about their personal experiences in trying to find the right major.

Apr. 13, 2012 – The UCLA Philharmonia, an orchestra of music students here at UCLA, had its seventh annual All-Star Concert last night. The concert included eight performances by soloists who were accompanied by an orchestra. The soloists were chosen from a competition held in fall quarter in which they performed the same pieces they prepared for last night.

First-year Doctor of Musical Arts student Ryan Dudenbostel and third-year DMA student Jorge Uzcategui each conducted two of the performances. The concert featured the talents of 11 students from the Herb Alpert School of Music who won the fall competition.

Feb. 27, 2012 – This past Saturday, artists David Burns, Matias Viegener and Austin Young led
a fruit meditation at the Armand Hammer Museum in Westwood. Burns, Viegener and
Young collaborate on several fruit-related projects under the title Fallen Fruit. Some of their
projects include making maps of “public fruit,” or fruit that can be picked by the public, in
neighborhoods; nocturnal fruit forages, in which the three lead a group of people in picking
public fruit just after nightfall; and public fruit jams, in which people come together with their
own fruit to make different kinds of jam. Their workshop at the Hammer Museum was Fallen
Fruit’s first fruit meditation, which had about 30 participants. Daily Bruin Radio attended and
observed the meditation.
