Sliced chicken, a tomato, two pieces of a baguette, grated mozzarella and a bowl of pesto sit on a cutting board.
Prepare your ingredients, and set them off to the side. Cut the chicken to your liking – I prefer smaller pieces because it makes it easier to fit on the sandwich.
Sliced chicken cooks in a pan with oil.
Next, add as much salt and pepper on your chicken as your heart desires, and saute your chicken in some oil on medium heat – though, to be honest, I have no idea how I cooked this. But sauteing sounded the fanciest.
A tomato is pictured being sliced.
Cut your tomato to your desired thickness. I made two slices, which fit perfectly on my length of bread – totally planned.
Mozzarella cheese is sprinkled onto the chicken pieces as it cooks.
After cutting your tomato, add your shredded mozzarella on one side of each chicken slice. The absolutely key part of this step is to get the cheese all over your frying pan like I did.
Chicken is flipped in a pan.
Once your cheese is added and mostly melted, flip the chicken over to the other side.
Bread is toasted in a stovetop pan.
After I take my chicken off the stove, I like to use the remaining oil to gently toast the baguette bread. But you can toast it in any way you like, such as in an oven or air fryer.
Pesto is spread onto a piece of bread.
Next, place the pesto on both sides of the bread. Definitely use a fork, because the pesto will totally not get stuck between the prongs, as seen in the picture!
Mozzarella is sprinkled on one side of the bread.
This step is completely optional, but if you love cheese like I do, add some extra to one slice of bread.

Add the tomato slices to one side of the bread – it does not matter which side.
Two pieces of bread with tomato slices and chicken are pictured being pressed together.
Once you place the chicken on either the tomato slices or the other slice of bread, put the two pieces of bread together, and you have a sandwich!
A chicken caprese sandwich is pictured. The final step. Enjoy!
