University police are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted and attempted to rob a UCLA student Thursday.

The student was near the corner of Strathmore Drive and Gayley Avenue at about 11:25 p.m. when a man grabbed his arms and tried to steal his property, according to a UCPD alert. The man then entered an awaiting Chrysler 300 and fled with a driver westbound on Strathmore Drive.

UCPD described the man as black, in his 20s and about 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a red, hooded sweater.

UCPD described the driver as male, but did not provide any additional details.

UCPD advises students to report any suspicious activities to the police and have a friend accompany them at all times.

This case is still under investigation. Anyone with information about this case can call UCPD at 310-825-1491.
