Jingjie Chen, a fourth-year design media arts student, wore a lace-trimmed denim skirt with a shirt from Kenzo, emblazoned with a brightly colored tiger. The skirt is from Miu Miu and was a gift from her mother. Although she doesn’t own other similar skirts and typically wears pants, she said she likes the way the length and shape flatter her legs.

Fourth-year global studies student Alia AlHaj sported a button-down denim skirt with red flowers embroidered on the sides, which she bought from Topshop. She wore it with an olive green tank top from Zara and a pair of Birkenstocks. She said she typically wears the skirt plain with off-the-shoulder tops to keep the focus of her outfit on the skirt. AlHaj said she noticed the button-down skirt had been trendy for a while and bought her own skirt around a year ago.

Third-year anthropology student Nacha Promsatian had on a black skirt buttoned all the way down, a feature she finds in a lot of vintage clothing, she said. She also donned a ’50s-style multicolored top, which she bought from Wasteland, a secondhand shop in San Francisco. She said she likes the structured, two-piece silhouette, which is popular in Asian countries such as Thailand, where she’s lived.

Hana Linder, a first-year astrophysics student, paired a cropped, floral long-sleeved top from Brandy Melville with a corduroy button-down skirt from American Apparel. Linder said she prefers wearing cropped tops, like the one from Brandy Melville, with A-line skirts to show off her waist. She completed the look with a pair of bright red sunglasses, which she bought from a flea market.
