Napolitano proposes plan to increase UC’s resident enrollment

The University of California is seeking to increase its in-state undergraduate enrollment by 10,000 over the next three years, according to a plan outlined by UC President Janet Napolitano.
Napolitano’s budget proposal will increase resident enrollment by 5,000 students for the 2016-2017 academic year, before completing the full 10,000 increase in the 2018 academic year, according to a UC press release.
The plan is subject to approval from the UC Board of Regents, which will vote on it Nov. 19.
As part of the budget deal Napolitano, Gov. Jerry Brown and the state legislature agreed on in June, the University was given an additional $25 million to cap nonresident student enrollment at the current amount and enroll 5,000 more California students over the next two years.
The University will also request an additional $6 million in state funding to enroll 600 more graduate students in the next academic year.
