Man sentenced to over 15 years in prison for stabbing UCLA hospital nurse

A Los Angeles man who stabbed a nurse multiple times at a UCLA hospital in Sylmar last year was sentenced Monday to a total of 15 years and eight months in state and county prisons.
Romero Carnalla, 27, was arrested in April 2014 after he stabbed a nurse at the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center 12 times and resisted arrest, according to a press release.
He pleaded no contest Monday to felony counts of attempted murder and resisting an executive officer, and two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records.
A judge sentenced Carnalla to 14 years and eight months in state prison for the felonies and a year in county jail for the misdemeanors, according to the court records.
Before Carnalla stabbed the nurse, he called police as he stood outside the the hospital, claiming he had a gun, according to the press release. When police arrived, Carnalla ran inside the hospital and attempted to grab two people who escaped.
