No. 1 seed UCLA women’s golf prepares for NCAA Regionals

UCLA women’s golf continues its postseason swing as the team prepares to compete in the NCAA Regionals Thursday.
The team enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed under the leadership of coach Carrie Forsyth.
Forsyth previously coached the team to eight regional championships, and this will be the Bruins’ 14th consecutive NCAA appearance.
UCLA looks to finish strong this week and pick up the program’s first team win at a tournament this season after a disappointing third round at Pac-12s where they could not finish the event with a victory.
“We played decently at Pac-12s and although we didn’t get the job done, the girls are playing really well and they’ve been practicing well so I think we’ll have a good tournament,” Forsyth said. “We’re coming in as the No. 1 seed so there’s no reason we can’t win, but our goal for everyone is to try our best and play our best golf in May.”
The Bruins will have the benefit of featuring two top-10 players in the tournament – sophomore Bronte Law and senior Erynne Lee.
In the individual rankings according to Golfweek, Law is ranked third and Lee ranked sixth.
Law’s season par is three over par and will look to continue the postseason with strong play.
“Every time I come out to play for UCLA, I have to be ready and perform at my best,” Law said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s at regionals or whether it’s the first tournament of the year, I’m going to do my best and that’s how I’m going to approach this tournament.”
While Law still has a few more regional tournaments to play in her career as a Bruin, Lee will be playing her last regional.
Lee won two regional championships during her freshman and junior years at UCLA. She will look to add another victory before she graduates.
“I’ve thought about the fact that it’s my last regionals but I’m just happy to be here in general and I’m happy to be here with the team,” Lee said. “We’ve had great results in the past, but we’re all worried about our own game and I’m looking forward to it.”
The NCAA Regionals will be the second to last tournament of the year for the Bruins, and even though they haven’t won an event as a team, they remain hopeful to finish strong.
“It’s an exciting time for all of us as we’re ranked No. 1 in the region, so we just have to go out there and play like we are the number one team here,” Law said.
