GSA candidate appeals election board decision on complaint

The graduate student government Election Board delayed releasing election results Tuesday night after a candidate appealed for the government’s forum to re-evaluate a complaint he made during the election process.
Matthew FitzGerald, a law student and candidate for the Graduate Students Association vice president of external affairs position, filed a complaint to the Election Board last week against the Anderson Student Association, Bruins Proud slate and its members. The complaint alleges that the Bruins Proud slate, which is running the four other candidates in the election, did not hold an open, fair endorsement process and published misleading information about endorsements online for a limited time.
Voting ended Monday at noon, and the Election Board was expected to release the results Tuesday after addressing FitzGerald’s complaint. However, after the board ruled that Bruins Proud slate did not violate the Election Code, FitzGerald appealed the decision. There was a heated discussion between Patrick Adler, election commissioner, and FitzGerald regarding FitzGerald’s complaints.
For an appeal to be official, four GSA forum delegates must sponsor it within five academic days.
It is unclear when the results will now be released.
