Defensive end transfers to UCLA football, is eligible for immediate play

UCLA football added a new piece to its defense Thursday when defensive end Takkarist McKinley signed with the Bruins, transferring from Contra Costa College, Scout.com’s Greg Biggins reported. McKinley is immediately eligible to play for UCLA.

McKinley initially signed with Cal out of high school in 2013, but was mistakenly ruled academically ineligible and could not attend Cal. The mixup means he’ll be able to play for the Bruins right away, after he arrives on campus Monday.

Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 240 pounds, McKinley has not only size, but speed as well. He should help shore up the defensive line and fill in the hole left by Kylie Fitts, who transferred to Utah.
