A 55-year-old man was fatally hit by a vehicle on the corner of Strathmore Drive and Levering Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver was parallel parking on a steep incline when they struck the man, said Katherine Main, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The man was standing on Strathmore Drive between his parked car and another parked vehicle, said Norma Eisenman, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver of a 2005 Honda Odyssey attempted to parallel park on the steep incline and collided with one of the parked cars, pushing it forward and striking the man, Eisenman said.

The man was taken in grave condition to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he died, West Los Angeles Police Department officials said.

Officials said the man was not a student at UCLA, but it is unclear if he was otherwise affiliated with the university. Police could not provide information about whether the driver was arrested.
