Phone stolen from student’s hand in North Village

By Daily Bruin

Aug. 9, 2013 2:31 p.m.

A thief snatched a student’s cell phone out of his hand while he was walking in the North Village Thursday afternoon.

The student was walking east on Strathmore Avenue at about 1 p.m. when he passed two men standing on the corner near Midvale Avenue, according to a police bulletin released today.

One of the men came up to the student from behind, forced his phone out of his hand and jumped into a white van waiting nearby, the police bulletin stated. The men then fled west down Strathmore Avenue in the van.

The man who grabbed the phone is described as black, in his early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a slim build. He had buzz-cut hair and was wearing a white shirt with blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call UCPD at (310) 825-9371.
