The Undergraduate Students Association Council is the official student government of UCLA’s undergraduate students. Council meetings are Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Kerckhoff 417 and are open to all students.

Special Presentations

  • Jonathan Curtiss, information technology manager for Student and Campus Life, asked USAC to show a two-minute public service announcement on illegal file-sharing before the Campus Events Commission’s movie screenings in Ackerman Student Union.
  • A representative from Undergraduate Student Initiated Education asked council to help publicize the program. The program allows third- and fourth-year students to teach their own seminars under faculty supervision. The deadline for the program is Nov. 5.

Agenda

  • Contingency allocations were approved unanimously.
  • Rachel Corell, executive director of the UCLA Volunteer Center, said the center will be holding multiple events this fall, including two One Bus, One Cause events on Oct. 27 and Nov. 12.

Appointments

  • Second-year history student Penn Scoble was appointed to the Financial Aid Policy Committee by a vote of 10-1-1. Student Wellness Commissioner Cassarah Chu voted against Scoble’s appointment. Community Service Commissioner Anees Hasnain abstained.

Officer reports

  • Andrea “Andi” Hester, internal vice president, said she spoke with Mike Cohn, the director of the Center for Student Programming, about having a USAC meeting on the Hill during winter quarter and another meeting tailored specifically to international students.
  • Lana Habib El-Farra, external vice president, said her office registered more than 2,000 student voters so far. El-Farra said her office accepted 114 students from 160 applications to act as delegates at the University of California Student Association’s Students of Color Conference on Nov. 9 ““ 11.
  • Kim Davis, academic affairs commissioner, said she is working on creating an academic services mobile application.
